To manufacture or sell radio and telecommunication equipment for use in Europe it must comply with RED Directive 2014/53/EU. With a few exceptions it applies to all equipment that uses the radio frequency spectrum.

The RED Directive harmonizes the telecommunications market and improves the process of bringing products to market. Removing national standards the directive now requires manufacturers to demonstrate that a product meets the directive’s Essential Requirements.
